Founded in 1845, Queens is not only an acclaimed academic, Ivy League institution but is also host to a building of architectural excellence.

Since the erection of its first distinct main building, named after it's architect Charles Lanyon, Queens has acquired over 300 buildings in order to accommodate new faculties over time. The first batch of students only numbered 90 over 150 years ago, today there are some 24,000 enrolled. Throughout the centuries Queens has continued to expand and develop becoming one of the most acclaimed universities on the Isles, gaining an international recognition for its academic research.

Queens is host to the Belfast Festival, features Ireland's only art house cinema and the Naughton Gallery, a registered museum. The Student's Union has hosted concerts such as The View, Paolo Nutini, Babyshambles to name a few. Notable university alumni include the poet Seamus Heaney, Actors Simon Callow and Liam Neeson and the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.

Opening Times

During Term time (May- September) the Visitor Centre is open from 10am-4pm and guided tours can be arranged. However the campus grounds are available to browse and your own leisure all year round. Please refer to Queen's Contact information to retrieve a more comprehensive list of opening times.
