Northern Ireland's premier tourist attraction lies within an area of outstanding natural beauty on the north coast. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Natural Nature Reserve formed over 60 million years ago from the molten lava from a vast volcanic eruption. It has a distinct 38,000 mainly hexagonal shaped basalt columns packed closely together in order to form 'stepping stones' to neighbouring Scotland.

The Causeway mythology has been attributed to the Irish Giant, Fionn MacCool. It tells an ancient story of Ireland Vs Scotland. Fionn Vs his rival Scottish giant, Benandonner. The rock formations are his 'stepping stones' to get to Scotland. Furthermore, similar stepping stones can be found in the island of Staffa, in the Hebrides to this day.
