botanic gardens

Established in 1828, Botanic Gardens is home to unique flora and fauna and glasshouses, located in the upmarket area of south Belfast, next to Queens University.

It's distinctive Palm House, designed by Charles Lanyon (architect of Queens) is home to different tall trees and seasonal plant displays. It also boasts a rose and alpine garden amongst other horticultural features. Perhaps the most popular feature besides the various shrubberies is the extensive grass area, frequently used by tourists, students and the general public to relax, and enjoy the tranquillity of the gardens set away from the bustling city centre. The Gardens also hosts various music festivals such as 'T in the Park' which in 2006 featured the Kaiser Chiefs and Snow Patrol.
